Lebanon FM says restoring full sovereignty remains the country's top national priority

Lebanon's Foreign Minister, Youssef Rajji, said the country is gradually reclaiming its sovereign right to make independent decisions, stressing that the Lebanese state alone holds authority over negotiations.

In an interview with Asharq Al-Awsat, Rajji emphasized that Lebanon should not be treated as a bargaining chip by any regional or international bloc.

He underscored that restoring full sovereignty remains the country’s top national priority, adding that there is “no shame” in negotiating with Israel if the objective is to end the war and recover Lebanese territory.

Rajji said the purpose of potential negotiations would be to resolve outstanding disputes between the two countries, particularly on the border, security, and humanitarian issues.

He rejected claims that engaging in talks would amount to surrender, arguing instead that negotiations are a legitimate tool to defend national interests when conducted by the state and based on careful calculations.
