REPORT: Judge Saqr charges al-Atrash and 12 others for belonging to terrorist networks

The State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr filed Thursday lawsuits against Omar al-Atrash and twelve other persons of Lebanese and Syrian nationalities, on charges of belonging to al-Qaeda and Abdullah Azzam Brigades.

In this context, the Lebanese Armed Forces Intelligence said that Omar al-Atrash confessed to transporting two suicide bombers who were killed on the al-Awali and Majdelyoun checkpoints in December, and to transporting several suicide bombers of Arab nationalities to Syria.

The army added that al-Atrash also confessed to bringing 4 rockets from Syria and firing them on the 22nd of August, 2013, from al-Hawsh region towards the occupied Palestinian lands.
 
Earlier, Judge Saqr had received the file of al-Atrash’s case and appointed a medical examiner to assess the state of health the latter.

The Lebanese Army Intelligence arrested Omar al-Atrash Friday January 24, on charges of being involved in recruiting suicide bombers, smuggling rigged cars and explosive belts and planning terrorist attacks that have recently rocked the southern suburb of Beirut and Hermel.

On Sunday 25 January, al-Atrash confessed to bringing car bombs, explosive belts and suicide bombers to Lebanon.

In January, three car bomb attacks, implemented by suicide bombers, have rocked areas that are considered Hezbollah strongholds in the country. Two bombings hit the Beirut southern suburb region of Haret Hreik, while another bomb attack targeted the Bekaa town of Hermel.
