PROFILE: Jean Fahed, Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council
During its meeting on Wednesday chaired by the Lebanese President Michel Sleiman, the Cabinet appointed Judge Jean Fahed as Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council.

Judge Fahed’s profile:

Judge Jean Daoud Fahed was born on the 7th of February 1955 in Achkout. He is married to Maha Shartouni and has 4 children.

He received his secondary education at Notre Dame de Louiaze School-Zouk Mosbeh, and St. Joseph School-Aintoura

He continued his academic studies at the Faculty of Law and Political and Administrative Sciences at St. Joseph University-Beirut (USJ)

He graduated in 1976 and received from both the USJ and the University of Lyon-2 his BS degree in Lebanese and French law.

He was granted a scholarship from the French Government to continue hiis higher education at Universite Paris II – Sorbonne where he received his higher diploma in Civil law and Comparative law.

In 1980, he registered at the Judicial Studies Institute and graduated in 1982.

In 1983, Fahed was appointed as a Judge and is currently ranked 17 in the order of judges.

Judge Fahed was appointed in various judicial positions ranging from a unilateral judge to President of the Beirut Court of Appeals.

He was a member of the Supreme Judicial Council from 30-9-1999 until 30-9-2000, and from June 2009 until June 2012, as a member of Lebanese Disciplinary Council.

He ranked first in productivity among judges of Mount Lebanon, according to a study conducted by the World Bank in 1994.

He was named Officer in the French Legion of Honor in July 2009, and was granted the Legion of Honor Order from Mexico in August 2009.

He is a professor at the Institute of Judicial Studies, and is a former professor at the Institute of higher wisdom to teach law, as well as at the Faculty of Business Administration at Sagesse University.

He participated in several local and international conferences and forums, and has conducted several studies, publishing judicial articles.
