Salam from Beirut Port: Fire is outside port silos-[REPORT]

Caretaker Minister of Economy Amin Salam said on Thursday that "the fear now is that fire will reach the wheat silos in the port of Beirut," noting that "the ministry will follow up on the matter in order to reach solutions, and in order not to endanger anyone's life."

Salam's remarks came during a press conference from the Beirut Port, where a fire had broken out.

He also noted that "there is a technical team and engineers specialized in this matter, who send a daily report on the matter."

"The fire is only outside the silos, but it will flare up from time to time due to the weather," he stressed.

Salam added that no decision has been made to demolish the silos, adding however that in the event the materials remain inside the silos, the fire will continue to eat the wheat, and a conclusion may be reached that the silos will be demolished.

"There is a slow and deliberate effort to avoid making a wrong decision,” he added.

Salam concluded by assuring the Lebanese that "there is no fear of an explosion like that of August 4th."
