Hitler's Mercedes Benz found in the United States

A Mercedes Benz belonging to the Nazi leader Herman Goering which has been parked for over half a century in a North Carolina garage is now being restored.

The car was reportedly seized by Allied authorities on the last day of World War II in 1945 and shipped to the United States.

Since then, the Mercedes 540K Cabriolet B, custom built for Hitler’s successor, was abandoned until High Velocity Classics of Pompano Beach, Florida, offered to preserve it.

The car was considered as a trophy of allied victory and was captured at Hitler’s villa at Berchtesgaden.

It was used by Colonel Heintges, the commander of the 7th Infantry who captured the vehicle, as his personal vehicle during the Allied Occupation of Germany.

At the end of the occupation, the car was sold to a U.S Army staff sergeant and shipped to the United States who kept it in Texas for a few years, and then sold it to Richard Taylor of North Carolina, who had kept it in his garage until present.

The car stayed with Taylor up until recently, when High Velocity Classics owners Steven Saffer and David Rathbun heard about the relic. Rathbun said he and his partners intend to overhaul the car and offer it to a Holocaust or World War II museum.

The car was commissioned by Goering in 1940, and delivered in 1941. It has special features as it was one of the fastest cars in the world at the time.

Among its features is a custom body for a raised back seat and parade stand and it was the last of its type ever made according to Mercedes Benz records.
