On St Maroun Day, Rai calls for Lebanese neutrality in the region

Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai celebrated Maroun mass on Thursday in the presence of President Michel Sleiman, PM Najib Mikati and House Speaker Nabih Berri along with many other officials.

Change and Reform bloc Leader MP Michel Aoun also participated in the Mass which took place at Saint George Cathedral in downtown Beirut.

During his sermon, Rai called for steering the country clear of regional and international axes and working towards the unity of churches and interreligious dialogue.

Rai stressed the importance of preserving cooperation, equality and balance between all elements of society, adding that “thanks to all martyrs, Lebanon was able to grow.”

Addressing the three top officials, Rai said “We ask God to give you divine blessings so that you will be able to lead the country to a safe haven.”
