MP Ibrahim Kanaan declared Thursday that he agrees with Maronite Patriarch Beshara Boutros Rai over the fact that the country cannot bear any more land sale for non-Lebanese, noting that he presented a draft law to affirm this matter.
Speaking from Bkerke, Kanaan said that a residence permit does not grant its holder the citizenship, pointing out that a Syrian national can own land or apartment in Lebanon with or without the Article 49 of the State Budget.
“The solution lies in abstaining from selling or being firmer in implementing the law of foreigners’ property ownership,” he stated, calling for heading to the parliament to amend said law in light of the presence of Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
