Electoral sub-committee convenes in presence of Aoun to discuss common ideas

The parliamentary sub-committee tasked with discussing the electoral law convened at the Parliament on Monday afternoon in the presence of MP Alain Aoun who had boycotted the committee’s meetings last week in protest of the failure to sign the meetings’ minutes.

Prior to the meeting, Aoun announced that "should manipulation occur within the electoral sub-committee meeting today, everyone will be facing a problem".

In turn, MP Hagop Pakradounian revealed that one of the proposals stipulates adding 6 seats for Shiites, Sunnites, Druze and Catholics and 2 seats to Syriacs.

For his part, MP Sami Gemayel said “let them suggest alternative solutions, or else let us resort to voting.”

As for MP Georges Adwan, he said that during the meeting, he will announce that the Orthodox Gathering’s proposed law obtained majority, stating that "we stand by our word.” He added that the Lebanese Forces’ alliance with the Future bloc is political, “but their stances on the electoral law are different.”

On another note, MP Akram Chehayeb said that the agenda is clear, stressing that today, participants will be discussing the common ideas.
