Parliament confirms election date as March 27-[REPORT]
The date of the legislative election was moved up by the Parliament on Tuesday, to March 27.

This comes as the head of the Free Patriotic Movement Gebran Bassil, expressed his opposition to changing the election date, claiming that storms are likely to occur on election day, potentially disrupting the voting process.

Bassil added that some electoral deadlines coincide with the fast of Christians.

"Such a procedure must be issued by a decree from the president of the republic, the prime minister, and the interior minister," he added.

"Your colleague Alain Aoun raised these objections, we then voted and approved this date," Speaker Nabih Berri responded.

The lawmakers then approved the right of expatriates to vote for 128 MPs not 6.

From his end, Prime Minister Najib Mikati affirmed following the session that he will exert every effort to hold the parliamentary elections on time, stressing that the government will work to ensure that the elections take place in full transparency.
