Hale says Hezbollah is putting its interests above those of the Lebanese people

The United States’ Ambassador-Designate to Lebanon David Hale made on Wednesday a statement before the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations on the repercussions of the Syrian crisis on Lebanon and on extending the term of the Lebanese parliament.

Ambassador-Designate Hale said that Hezbollah is putting its own interests and those of its foreign backers above the interests of the Lebanese people, adding that the party’s intervention in the Syrian war contradicts with the Baabda Declaration and violates Lebanon’s dissociation policy.

As for extending the mandate of the parliament, Hale said that this decision undermines Lebanon’s democratic practices and stability, adding that political leaders should respect the electoral process and the constitution.
