Azzi to LBCI: Proportional representation is not all its made out to be
Deputy Head of Kataeb party Sejaan Azzi told Nahrkom Said TV show that the Maronite meeting was inspired by the need for a Christian unity amid the critical situation that Lebanon and regional countries are witnessing.

“Such efforts did not bear their desired fruits during President Michel Sleiman’s mandate”, Azzi said.

Azzi added that the proportional representation system is not what it was made out to be during the past few years or months, stressing that proportional representation is a  thing of the past since it does not ensure equity in the number of MPs.

Azzi said that the integrity of MP Sami Gemayel was not harmed by the verbal row at Parliament, adding that the integrity of any MP is far more important than any abusive language uttered by MP Nawwaf Moussawi.

Azzi added that regular meetings between Gemayel and MP Walid Jumblatt are being held based on the need to establish an agreement between Lebanese leaderships that believe in Lebanon’s sovereignty and independence.

“Even when the split between March 14 and 8 parties was at its highest, there was a rapprochement between the stances of Gemayel and Jumblatt”, Azzi said. Azzi stressed that the two men can lay the foundation for a new national condition that might put an end to the crisis while staying true to their tenets.
