Rayes to LBCI: Presidential elections should serve as a motive to form new cabinet

The media commissioner for the Progressive Socialist Party Rami Rayes stressed Monday that the Syrian refugees constitute a burden on the Lebanese government, noting that the assistance expected to be sent to them has not yet arrived.

In this context, he stressed the need to form a new cabinet that will assume its responsibility towards this tragic situation.

In a statement to LBCI’s Nharkom Said, Rayes said that the involvement of Lebanese parties in the Syrian crisis, the issue of the Syrian refugees and many other matters necessitate the formation of a new government.

“The upcoming presidential elections should serve as a motive to form a new cabinet,” he stated, noting that President Michel Sleiman is keen on preserving stability in the country.

“A fait accompli cabinet cannot perform its duties amid the current situation, it will lose parliament’s confidence and we will face a harder situation,” he added.

On another note, Rayes pointed out that President Sleiman does not seek mandate extension, calling for taking advantage of the international situation in order to elect a “pure Lebanese president.”
