Minister of Justice Rifi: We believe in a free and independent nation

Minister of Justice Ashraf Rifi said on Monday that the Lebanese Forces party will be represented in the cabinet since its opinions and beliefs regarding Lebanon's institutions are the same as his.

Rifi's comments were made via his Twitter account in which he stressed that he is a part of a political camp that believes in a free and independent nation, adding that justice and security complement one another.

On another note, he stressed that cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Justice is "natural", adding that he does not differentiate between the Lebanese people.

On Saturday, Lebanon's Prime Minister Tammam Salam formed the long awaited cabinet which includes a wide range of political groups after bridging serious divisions among them mostly over Syria's civil war. Salam's 24-member national unity Cabinet was announced at the presidential palace and included former Internal Security Forces Chief Ashraf Rifi as Minister of Justice and Future bloc MP Nohad al-Machnouk as Minister of Interior.

In April 2013, 124 deputies out of 128 nominated MP Tammam Salam as Prime Minister.

Former Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced the cabinet's resignation on Friday March 22, after talks deadlocked over the extension of Internal Security Forces chief Major General Ashraf Riffi's mandate and the formation of an Election Supervisory Committee.
