Aoun, Salam efforts pave way for Israel talks; Simon Karam to lead Lebanon delegation, sources tell LBCI

Lebanese official sources told LBCI they have not yet received any formal communication regarding Israel’s position on negotiations with Lebanon, saying they learned of the developments through the media and are awaiting official steps.

The sources said efforts by President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam appear to have paved the way for the launch of a negotiation track, which they stressed should take place under a ceasefire.

They added that a “Pakistan model,” similar to what was applied with Iran, is being considered, a two-week truce, with negotiations beginning 72 hours after it takes effect.

The sources said the Lebanese negotiating delegation will be headed by Ambassador Simon Karam, along with additional members deemed necessary, in line with the president’s constitutional authority over negotiations. They stressed the delegation will not be a sectarian-based formation, an approach agreed upon by Lebanon’s leadership.

They added that the time and place of the negotiations have not yet been determined.
