FM Bassil says Lebanon will partner against terrorism, Islamic State
Lebanon's foreign minister Gebran Bassil said on Thursday that his country will work with world powers in the fight against terrorism.

"Eradicating the Islamic State is a top priority," Bassil said during a speech he delivered in the Saudi city of Jeddah.

In this regard, the minister called for protecting minorities in the Middle East as well as the "culture of dialogue" in the face of violence and intolerance.

He also thanked the kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its generous grant to the Lebanese Armed Forces and the United States for the military assistance it has recently offered to the LAF.

Bassil had arrived to Jeddah to participate in a meeting hosted by the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

In this regard, Bassil said his participation in the Jeddah talks aims to tackle the regional situation as well as the means to combat terrorist groups, i.e. the Islamic State and Jabhat al-Nusra.

Earlier, the minister told As-Safir newspaper that Lebanon must partake in every regional and international effort aiming to address terrorism.

Bassil added that Lebanon's participation in Jeddah's talks will help the country in its battle against the threats imposed by Takfiri groups.
