Patriarch Rai in Iraq's Erbil on pastoral visit

Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai and the Archbishop of Milan Cardinal Angelo Scola arrived Friday to the Iraqi Kurdish region of Erbil to “convey a message of support” to Christians in the region.

Patriarch Rai stressed that the Christians must remain in Iraq, where they have coexisted with the Muslims and built a joint civilization, adding that their future must be in Iraq.

The patriarch last visited Erbil in August 2014.
