Brother of kidnapped soldier warns against escalatory steps
Nizam Mgheit, the brother of kidnapped soldier Ibrahim Mgheit, lashed out on Monday at the Lebanese government’s inaction regarding the Arsal captives dossier, accusing it of procrastination in assuming its duties as the fate of the abductees remains unknown.

In a speech delivered in Qalamoun marking one year since the soldiers’ kidnapping, Mgheit said: “We will not rest until ours loved ones are released,” warning against escalatory measures to be taken in the next few days.

In turn, Qalamoun mayor Anas Obeid said the captives’ dossier is a humanitarian case, urging the Lebanese cabinet to work in order to secure their release.

The soldiers and policemen were kidnapped by the Islamic State and al-Nusra Front militant groups on August 2, 2014, in the wake of clashes in Arsal.

A few of them have since been released, four were executed, while the rest remain held hostage.

Their captors have made demands for the release of Islamist inmates in Lebanon in exchange for the troops.
