Qabbani calls for the release of 11 Lebanese detainees

Mufti of the Republic Sheikh Mohammad Rachid Qabbani received on Saturday the relatives of the 11 Lebanese detainees in Syria. Following the gathering the Mufti called for their release to come prior to the commencement of the holy month of Ramada.

The 11 were kidnapped in Allepo, north Syria, on their return from a pilgrimage in Iran.

Security sources earlier said Syrian rebels were behind the kidnappings in an apparent move to swap the men for Syrian prisoners.

The rebel Free Syrian Army has denied involvement.

No news has been heard of the men except for a video aired on al-Jazeera TV earlier this month in which the abductees claimed they were doing well.
