Aoun: Lebanon is the country of minorities

Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun said that Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai does not go into politics with his statements; rather, he expresses the reality of the situation.

 “Rai attaches great value to peaceful coexistence, therefore the verbal attacks by head of the Lebanese Forces Samir Geagea against the patriarch are unjustified”, Aoun added.  

Following his bloc’s weekly meeting, Aoun stressed that Lebanon is the country of minorities since no majority exists. Speaking on Syria, Aoun said that the minorities there are threatened and he accused the U.S. of supporting mayhem in Syrian cities.  

Aoun held the international community responsible for the crimes committed by Israel against Palestine, saying: “If the UN is not capable of implementing the necessary resolutions, it should cease to exist.”

 “By depriving the Palestinians from an independent state with full membership in the Security Council, the UN would be committing a second crime [against the Palestinian people]”, Aoun added.  

Aoun considered the latest remarks made by Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan to be a clear sign of his ignorance of history.
