Zaki continues his tour on Lebanese leaders, meets Gemayel and Rai
Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League Ambassador Houssam Zaki continued on Friday his tour on Lebanese leaders and met with Kataeb party leader Sami Gemayel.

Following the meeting, Zaki said that “he listened with interest to the Kataeb party’s vision regarding the situation in Lebanon.”

“I conveyed to him the endeavor of the Arab League and its concerns about the continuing political crisis in the country," Zaki added.

For his part, Gemayel noted that “the Lebanese people felt lately that they are abandoned by their friends,” voicing hopes that all Arab nations and Lebanon’s friends would “care for the fate of the Lebanese people who are in dire need of their support."

Gemayel also reiterated the need to form a fully independent government, adding that the formation of a Cabinet made of experts who are appointed by parties is much worse than the formation of a political one.

“Political parties are negotiating over shares while the Lebanese people are overburdened by the weight of poverty, and social and economic devastation,” Gemayel stressed.

Zaki then headed to Bkerke where he held talks with Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai.

“The Patriarch's stance in terms of the neutrality of Lebanon comes in complete harmony with the resolutions of the Arab League Council regarding the self-distancing from all conflicts and disputes surrounding Lebanon,” Zaki noted following the meeting.
