REPORT: Friends of Roula Yaacoub gather outside Halba municipality

Friends of Roula Yaacoub gathered on Sunday outside the Halba municipality, stressing the need to rectify mistakes in the indictment which acquitted Roula's husband accused by the victim's family of killing her.

They said they have the right to "demystify" the case of Roula Yaacoub, calling on the accusatory authority to sift through the indictment.     

"The judiciary should steer clear of pressure exerted by the media," caretaker Minister of Justice Chakib Qortbawi told LBCI.     

"The day Roula Yaacoub died, the doctors confirmed that beating was not the cause of death," he said, adding that the judge had ordered an autopsy on the body but Roula's family took the corpse by force and buried her".      

On July 7th, a 33-year-old Lebanese woman Roula Yaacoub was beaten to death by her husband, well-informed sources reported.      

Neighbors told LBCI they heard Roula - the mother of five daughters - screaming and they tried interfering to stop a fight that was developing between the couple, but the husband refused. Later on, the man rushed out to seek help after Roula went unconscious.            

Roula was rushed to the hospital. She died shortly after that.
