The Kataeb party MPs, along with deputies Marwan Hamadeh, Paula Yaacoubian, Nicolas Nahas, Ali Darwish, Jihad al-Samad, Faisal Karami and Ousama Saad, headed on Thursday to the Constitutional Council to file an appeal against the law number 129, pertaining to the mechanism adopted in conducting tenders related to establishment of power plants.
Said law was passed by the parliament a few weeks ago in the session, during which the electricity plan was also approved.
The appeal submitted focuses on the Parliament’s violation of the Article 36 of the Lebanese Constitution, which stipulates that voting should be cast verbally by roll-call and in an audible voice, or by the members rising and sitting.
The appeal was also based on the article 89 of the Constitution, which states:“No contract or concession for the exploitation of the natural resources of the country, or a public utility service, and no monopoly may be granted except by virtue of a law and for a limited period.”
