REPORT: Water in Palestine: a point of contention with Israel

The issue of water has always been vital for the lives of Palestinians especially since Israel has long strived to steal this water with all means. The apartheid wall was erected to control this vital element and prevent Palestinians from enjoying their share of the resource.     

While negotiations over this issue with Israel have been postponed, the U.N.’s recognition of Palestine state as an observer state prompted many experts to put this issue back on the table for discussion.     

In this regard, the Director of the Palestinian Hydrology Group, Abdel Rahman al-Tamimi, told LBCI that the separation wall will turn many Palestinians into workers in Israeli settlements.    

The Director of the Palestinian Water Institute, Engineer Saleh al-Rai, considers that being granted their rights in water resources would be a steady step towards building an independent Palestinian state.      

It is noteworthy that the most recent Palestinian official statistics show that the share of water per capita in Israel is eight folds the share of one Palestinian.
