A video footage recorded at one of the world’s busiest airports captures the journey of passengers’ luggage from the moment it is left with at the check-in counter.
With a camera attached to the top of a suitcase, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol filmed the behind-the-scenes video, revealing a sophisticated conveyor belt system that separates and delivers luggage to the appropriate holding area.
The bag’s journey changes course several times along an innovative automated baggage system until it reaches a robotic arm and is finally ready to be loaded onto a plane.
It crosses a network of motorways, with intersections and lane changes, in addition to robotic arms that lift and lower suitcases and place them on belts.
The video puts an end to the belief that the travelers’ luggage are moved and sorted by hand, at least at massive airports.
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is the fifth busiest airport in Europe, with more than 55 million passengers flying to more than 300 destinations last year.
