Any third party involved in Al-Aqibya incident?
There appear to be efforts to tie up the UNIFIL convoy attack in Al-Aqibya, in which some Lebanese politicians may be involved, to pressure the investigation to file a case against an unidentified person. On the other hand, there is an unprecedented international insistence on clarifying the circumstances of the attack that resulted in the death of one Irish soldier and the injury of three others.

This article was originally published in, and translated from, the Lebanese newspaper Nida Al Watan.

A source following Nidaa Al-Watan pointed out the ongoing confusion process while betting on the time factor to empty the investigation of its content, highlighting the insistency of the Head of Hezbollah's Liaison and Coordination Unit, Wafiq Safa, to make a statement to foreign and local media. However, it is customary to issue a written statement distributed to the press.

The same source mentioned that a scenario is being talked about regarding the crime of assault, indicating that there are no Hezbollah or Amal Movement centers in the area.

What about the displaced Syrian camps near the incident?

The source indicated the possibility of a third party involved, revealing that those who gathered where the incident occurred were the displaced Syrians, confirming the existence of more than one random camp in the area. The source added that there had previously been problems between the displaced and the surroundings, suggesting that who fired the fire was one of the displaced Syrians or more than one person.

A well-informed source responded to this scenario by saying, "once again, the suspicious person almost said take me."

The source explained that the absence of Hezbollah centers in the region is illogical, given that it is one of the areas of influence of the party, "which extends along the Lebanese coast from Naqoura to beyond Batroun and perhaps more."

The same source claimed that blaming the displaced Syrians is refuted because they are all supporters of the Syrian government and would never dare to establish a camp without the forces' knowledge, coordination, and consent, especially Hezbollah.

According to the source, the party has detailed data on every displaced person in every southern city and town.

Thus, it clarified that the party's only goal was not to hand over the shooters, while it knows them well, because this would increase the embarrassment when its political affiliation is revealed, not to mention that the international investigation represented by UNIFIL and the Irish delegation and through the testimonies of survivors in the targeted patrol has formed an almost final picture.

The tendency is to declare that the attack was intentional, and the initial data indicated that the patrol was interrupted at least twice before an attack attempt was made.

The source indicated that "the international position is pressuring the political authority and the security and judicial authorities to prevent obstruction or distortion of the investigation." It also said that "any failure in this will be met with a strict international position drawn up by the UN Security Council, which deals with the attack as a crime against the United Nations and all its member states."

The source continued by noting that it is preferable to expedite the investigation and bring the accused to the appropriate judiciary so that the case does not become an international investigation and shift from the Lebanese framework to the international framework, where the verdict is rendered based on the data, evidence, and testimonies of the injured that are in the hands of the international judiciary.
