Teacher Ann Maguire was murdered in a horrific attack by her own student who stabbed her to death, when she was working on her day off to help students with their exam at Corpus Christi Catholic College in Leeds.
In the details, the boy allegedly walked up behind her and repeatedly plunged a kitchen knife into her neck and back, while she begged students to flee the classroom rather than see the attack.
“Mrs Maguire was screaming at the kids in the class telling them to get out because she didn't want them to see what was happening,” one teenager said.
Mrs Maguire, who was described as the best by her students, died in 'a truly shocking and appalling tragedy', Prime Minister David Cameron was quoted as saying.
Sources revealed that the teacher had told her husband Don, 62, that she could not spend the day with him at home because she wanted to help students prepare for their exams.
The popular Spanish teacher was also in her last term before retiring from full-time work at the school where she spent her entire 40-year career.
“He chased her from one room to another before she collapsed into the arms of another teacher, then dropped the knife and fled the room smiling before being tackled by the school's assistant head teacher,” witnesses explained.
Detectives asked for more time to question a 15-year-old boy over the murder, and said the suspect has been treated for a minor hand injury.
According to his classmates, the 15-year-old arrested over the killing was said to be a 'grade A student' from a good family, describing him as a 'weird loner' who had few friends.
Other students said that he is alleged to have harbored a grudge against Mrs Maguire after she has recently confiscated his phone and given him detention.
Fellow students have said he had self-harmed and struggled to cope with the break-up of his parents.
