The ongoing battle against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq have been documented through images taken by the militants themselves, but since the focus shifted to the northern Syrian city of Kobani near the Turkish borders, more footage filmed from relative safety across the border in Turkey started to flood in.
According to the Washington Post, a new perspective of this war was offered by new satellite images released by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research and shot by Digital Globe.
The pictures show “from a bird's eye view how Kobani has turned into a war zone.”
The first set of pictures was shot on September 6, a few weeks before the fighting in the city reached international front pages. The second set of images was taken last Wednesday, October 15.
