Bahraini Opposition considers the revoke of nationalities as political score-settling

Al Wifak, a Shiite opposition party in Bahrain, denounced on Thursday the authorities’ decision to revoke of 31 Shiite activists for “damaging national security”, among them two former MPs.

The party described this measure as “arbitrary” and violating to the human rights, stressing that the rule is settling scores through this step.

The Bahraini Opposition issued a statement in which it declares the refuse of this “unconstitutional and illegal procedure”.

The Bahraini government, facing protracted unrest by its Shiite Muslim majority, has revoked the nationality of 31 men for “damaging national security”, the state news agency BNA reported on Wednesday.    

The men include London-based dissidents Saeed al-Shehabi and Ali Mushaima, the son of jailed opposition leader Hassan Mushaima, as well as clerics, human rights lawyers and activists, according to Mohammed al-Mascati, head of the Bahrain Youth Centre for Human Rights.
