Tunisian court sentences ousted President Ben Ali to life imprisonment

A Tunisian military court sentenced ousted president Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali in absentia to life imprisonment for the third consecutive time since he fled to exile in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as protests swept Tunisia in January 2011.

According to the Tunisian News Agency, Ben Ali was sentenced to life imprisonment for involvement in the death of a protester and the injury of two others during the country’s uprising that swept him from power.

As for former Interior Minister Rafik Belhaj, he was sentenced to 10 years in jail.
