When the Director General of General Security, Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim visited Baghdad last week and then returned to Baabda to inform the president of the outcome of this mission, the nature of which was not disclosed, information circulated saying that the mission was related to an important economic and security matter.
The explanation was released in the form of a statement by the Iraqi Intelligence apparatus, whereby it said that, in cooperation with the Lebanese General Security, a fraud network was uncovered, and its members spread false information and fabricated news for extortion purposes targeting Lebanese banks, claiming to possess documents of millions of dollars of deposits in these banks.
The members of these networks, according the statement, had filed lawsuits against these banks, the most recent of which targeting Bank Audi, a known Lebanese bank. The statement added that the documents presented by these people were proved to be forged.
