Above are two photos I was able to capture whilst driving to work this morning clearly depicting two ISF soldiers being transported on board an open body police pick-up truck.
Ironically, this occurrence happens to coincide with day 1 of the implementation of the newly enforced, highly controversial road traffic safety law.
The law has been met thus far with adverse reactions seemingly since Lebanon lacks the basic infrastructure to compliment such a high standard of rules and regulations. The high fines make for a source of concern to citizens with limited income especially since many fines exceed the minimum wage.
But the main concern echoing on the streets of Lebanon is related to how the law would be enforced and whether it would only target those who lack “wasta” or political contacts that would exempt them from paying said fines.
Most importantly will the ISF be held accountable for breaching the law as clearly depicted in the photos above?
These are the questions and their ensuing answers that will make or break the implementation of the law, or any other law for that matter.
And while I clearly broke the law as I took those shots, I will only accept to pay the fine once the ISF does its part in acknowledging its own violations.
