REPORT: Rai to Aoun: Your election unified the political blocs

Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai said on Thursday that the latest political developments in the country pave the way for the true implementation of the Taef accord.

Rai’s comments were made after welcoming President Michel Aoun and Free Patriotic Movement leader Minister of Foreign Affairs Gebran Bassil in Bkerke.

“Your election unified the political blocs as well as all people’s factions, and formed an introduction for a comprehensive national reconciliation that needs to be completed,” Rai said to Aoun.

For his part, Aoun stressed that corruption is ravaging the country, noting that the state’s institutions are weakened due to the extension of the cabinet’s mandate.
