REPORT: Industrialists raise their voice; say “Lebanon’s economy is in danger”

Industry and Commerce Ministers, as well as the President of the Association of Lebanese Industrialists and President of the Chamber at the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in Beirut, tackled Tuesday during a press conference over the issue of industry, stressing the need to fight toward an increase in exports.

Industry Minister Hussein Hajj Hassan stressed that “Lebanon’s economy is in danger,” calling for increasing local production.

“Our exports have decreased starting the year 2011, and we have to reduce the imports by USD 2 billion,” he stated, calling on France to open its markets.

For his part, Economy and Commerce Minister Raed Khoury noted that Industry is an essential part of Lebanon’s economy, adding that the commercial balance is declining, which affects growth.

In turn, President of the Association of Lebanese Industrialists said that they will not turn a blind eye over the illegal establishments set up by Syrian refugees and replacing the Lebanese legal institutions.
