Leader of Al Kataeb party Deputy Sami Gemayel wrapped up on Wednesday his visit to Paris by meeting with French Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian.
Gemayel stressed the need to “take all steps to enhance the state’s sovereignty inside the country and across its borders.”
He also noted the need to continue supporting the army, arming and training it as being “the military institution that garners the confidence of all Lebanese people.”
Gemayel also expressed his concern about “the policy of silencing and the restriction of public freedom, in particular, the freedom of expression especially that the Parliamentary elections are near.”
Both Lebanese and French officials considered that the values of freedom and justice, that France have always fought for, are the only values that preserve a state of justice and the country’s higher national interest.
Also during the meeting, Gemayel and Le Drian agreed on the need to strengthen the bilateral relations, to enhance Lebanon’s democracy, and to hold the Parliamentary elections on time.
“That is the only way to revive the political life,” both parties said.
