Head of the Democratic Gathering MP Taymour Jumblatt met in Moscow with Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Bogdanov, where they discussed the situation in the region in general and in Lebanon in particular amid a delay in the formation of a new cabinet.
In this regard, Bogdanov stressed Russia’s readiness to conduct the necessary contacts to move forward with the formation process to protect the internal stability, emphasizing Russia’s keenness on Lebanon.
During the meeting, Jumblatt thanked the Russian side on their efforts that led to the release of the first batch of kidnapped people in the region of Suweida in Syria by the Islamic State. He reiterated his confidence in these efforts to complete the liberation of the remaining abductees.
In turn, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement, whereby it said that the discussions tackled the latest developments in Lebanon, with focus on the need to form a national unity government headed by Saad Hariri as soon as possible.
The statement added that the Lebanese and Russian officials also discussed the situation in Syria, with emphasis on the need to resolve the crisis, with a political solution in accordance with the UNSC resolution 2254.
