Fletcher fears spillover of Syrian crisis to Lebanon

British Ambassador to Lebanon Tom Fletcher stressed his country’s support to the LAF, adding that it is necessary to focus on dialogue now, and not on Tripoli’s demise.

Following his meeting with PM Najib Mikati, Fletcher said “we are looking into the specific needs of the army to provide it with a wider line of international support in order to help the LAF fulfill its duties in Tripoli and its surroundings”.

Fletcher voiced his and the international community’s concern over the “proved meddling in Lebanon’s internal affairs”, especially in Tripoli.

“I fear that the Syrian regime is exporting its crisis to neighboring countries”.
