REPORT: Preparations for Eid al-Adha underway in Islamic states

Gold markets in Saudi Arabia witnessed a high turnout upon the start of the  Eid, whereby thousands of pilgrims head to the country from around the world to join in the festivities.

Meanwhile in  Egypt, within the framework of preserving the health of the citizens, a "food bank" was founded to offer meat at reasonable prices on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, and at the same time to respect the food safety standards, in terms of livestock and slaughter methods.                  

In Bangladesh, livestock traders unloaded cows and bulls from small boats along the shores of the capital Dhaka on Thursday ahead of Eid-al-Adha, Islam's annual festival of sacrifice. The cattle were taken to temporary livestock markets set up across the capital and lined up for buyers to inspect them. Cows, goats, camels and sheep are slaughtered every year to mark the festival. The meat is then distributed, with one-third eaten by the immediate family, one-third given away to friends, and one-third donated to the poor.                  

In Pakistan, the high prices of cattle prevented many Pakistanis from offering sacrifices on the occasion, given that in Pakistan around 10 million animals get slaughtered during the holiday.
