Consumer Protection Department calls for ban of livestock import from Brazil

The Consumer Protection Department requested the Ministry of Agriculture Wednesday to accelerate procedures to impose a temporary ban on the import of livestock, bovine meat and its derivatives from Brazil due to the spread of mad cow disease there.

The Department stressed the necessity that Lebanon take decisions similar to Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Russia, Iran, Japan and Europe which all banned the import of livestock, bovine meat and its derivatives from all Brazilian cities.
