REPORT: Punishment for celebratory gunfire enters into effect, cannot be replaced by money

On July 6, Mohammad Ali al-Hajj Hassan opened fire using an unlicensed war weapon during a wedding in the town of Temnin al-Tahta in the Bekaa.

On June 29, Jamil Ons Machlah also opened fire during a funeral in the Akkar town of Bebnin.

An unprecedented sentence was issued against them by the Military Court for the first time in such cases, sentencing both Hassan and Machlah to one month in prison, irreplaceable by a fine, imposing as well as fine of LBP 2 million on each one of them while confiscating their arms and preventing them from obtaining a license of holding arms.

This comes after scores of victims have died due to the arms chaos that spread across the country.
