REPORT: Website of Lebanese parliament hacked for the second time

The website of the Lebanese parliament was hacked on Friday by civil society activists who called on the Lebanese people to join a sit-in in protest of the extension of the parliament's mandate today at 6:00 pm in Riad al-Solh Square.

The parliamentary website had been hacked before on June 21st as activists rallied in the central Beirut square.

These movements have been staged weekly by the said groups to denounce the term extension of the parliament.

The law came into effect on June 21st, after the Constitutional Council failed to reach quorum four times in a row to discuss two appeals, resulting in the defacto approval of the bill extending parliaments term for 17 months.

On Friday the 31st of May, 97 parliamentarians ratified a law to extend the current parliament's mandate until the 20th of November 2014.

The session was held amid the discontent of several civil society groups who gathered before Nejmeh Square pelting lawmakers with tomatoes in protest of the decision.

The Free Patriotic Movement boycotted the session, announcing that they would file an appeal to the Constitutional Council.

Similarly, President Michel Sleiman also vowed to fight the said law, citing its unconstitutionality as the main reason behind his move. The two had sent separate appeals challenging the law.
