Sleiman denounces firing rockets towards Israel, praises Lebanese Army’s efforts

Lebanese President Michel Sleiman followed up on Thursday on the latest developments regarding the United Nations Security Council’s probe into the use of chemical weapons in Syria saying that, “if confirmed, contradicts with humanitarian values.”             

While he expressed his deep concern concerning the use of such weapons by any party, Sleiman called on the Security Council to deploy strong efforts in order to reach a concrete solution in this case.                 

On another note, Sleiman praised the efforts exerted by the Lebanese army in cooperation with the security apparatuses in detecting terrorist networks, stressing the importance of the measures taken to pursue those behind the attacks carried out in an attempt to create sedition in the country.                 

On the other hand, President Sleiman denounced the firing of the rockets from South Lebanon towards Israel, noting that this act violates the UNSCR 1701 and Lebanon’s sovereignty. He called on the concerned authorities to conduct investigations in order to unveil the perpetrators and to take the necessary legal measures against them.
