Former Minister Ghattas Khoury to LBCI: Lebanese political life reached "an impasse"

Former Minister Ghattas Khoury asserted on Thursday that the Lebanese political life reached an impasse due to the regional crisis, noting that the Free Syrian Army is relying on the foreign aid to continue its fighting.

Khoury made his comments during an interview with Nharkom Said TV show during which he said that the Syrian regime will be soon toppled.

The Syrian war, now in its third year, has killed over 100,000 people and displaced millions. The spark for the uprising against Assad was a school in the country's southern city of Daraa, where teenagers sprayed anti-government graffiti on a wall.

A heavy-handed response then sparked an uprising which has since escalated into an insurgency and civil war.

He also added that the US-Iranian rapprochement is still in its early phase."

Signs of US-Iranian rapprochement have rattled Israel, which accuses Iran of trying to buy time and get out from under tough international sanctions while it pursues development of nuclear weapons.

Iran denies it is working toward an atomic bomb.
