Crime scene of Starco explosion to remain closed, surrounding roads to reopen

Acting State Prosecutor Judge Samir Hammoud headed on Monday a meeting at his office at the Justice Palace, attended by the State Commissioner to the Military court Judge Saqr Saqr and leaders of the security apparatuses that are conducting investigations in former minister Mohamad Chatah’s assassination case.

During the meeting, the judges were briefed on the latest developments and information reached in the ongoing probe.

Judge Saqr Saqr ordered the opening of the roads and streets that were closed in the vicinity of the explosion site, in order to facilitate commuter routes.

However, he stressed the need to keep the street where the explosion took place closed where the preliminary investigations are being conducted.

An explosion rocked the Lebanese capital Beirut on Friday, December 27, targeting the convoy of former minister Mohammad Chatah.

Sources at the explosion site said Chatah was on his way to attend a meeting at Beit al-Wasat when the explosion occurred.

The explosion in Beirut's Starco claimed the lives of 8 persons, including former minister Chatah, and injured 71 others.
