Attempt to smuggle drugs thwarted at Beirut airport

Customs at Beirut International Airport arrested on Sunday an Ethiopian woman entering Lebanon and attempting to smuggle 9 kgs of Alqat.

Alqat is a form of chewable tobacco very commonly used in Yemen but is considered as a narcotic in various countries.

The Ethiopian woman identified as R.M. born in 1974, carried the material in her handbag wrapped in plastic bags and aluminum foil.
She insisted during investigations that the quantity she had was for personal use.

She was referred to the concerned authorities  for further investigations.
