Rapper arrested as suspected suicide bomber released

Rapper Hussein Sharafeddine was released on Thursday afternoon after he was arrested yesterday on suspicion of being a terrorist.

Sharafeddine was under investigation at the Lebanese Armed Forces' counter-terrorism department in the Werwar barracks.

The Internal Security Forces arrested on Wednesday a man suspected of being a suicide bomber near the southern Beirut suburb of Haret Hreik, the state-run National News Agency reported.

The agency said the suspect was arrested near the site of Tuesday's explosion, noting that no explosive materials were found on him or in his vehicle.

It was later revealed that the man is a rapper identified as Hussein Sharafeddine also known by his stage name, Double A The Preacherman.

Jabhat al Nusra's Lebanon branch claimed responsibility for the bomb attack that rocked Beirut's southern suburbs region of Haret Hreik Tuesday, a stronghold of the Shi'ite movement Hezbollah, killing 4 persons and wounding more than 40, official sources said.

A statement released via twitter said the attack comes in retaliation of the Arsal incident in which 9 civilians were killed when a rocket fell into the northeastern Lebanese border town Friday.
