Patriarch Rai urges political leaders to end tense rhetoric

Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai stressed on Sunday the need for political leader to put an end to their tense rhetoric and  to place national interests on top of all else.

Rai's comments were made during his Sunday sermon in which he noted that Lebanon is in dire need of a government "capable of rising up to challenges, mainly holding the presidential elections on their due time.”

"The government should also help recover the people's faith in officials and politicians, he continued.

“It is unfortunate that various violations in Lebanon are being given political cover,” lamented Rai.

Lebanese leaders are sharply divided over several political issues, such as the formation of  the new cabinet, the presidential elections and the civil war in neighboring Syria.
