Jumblatt says Palestinian national reconciliation is of major importance

The head of the Progressive Socialist Party MP Walid Jumblatt expressed hope on Monday that “a Palestinian reconciliation would be both final and radical in order to reunite the Palestinians and reach a comprehensive political agreement that includes the unification of the various Palestinian forces and factions, in a bid to face the Israeli occupation.”

In this context, Jumblatt stressed the need to define the foundations of the joint struggle that aims at reinstating the people’s legitimate national rights, “within the framework of putting an end to the recession that has befallen the Palestinian cause.”

In his weekly statement to al-Anbaa electronic newspaper, Jumblatt lauded Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas for facing off pressure exerted in a bid to have him recognize Israel as a Jewish State.

“Such a move (referring to the recognition of Israel) would lead to a new wave of displacement of the Palestinians, and could be compared to genocide,” he added.

Accordingly, the PSP leader stressed the importance of maintaining Palestinian national reconciliation amid the current international and regional circumstances, “since it remains the only viable choice available before the Palestinian forces.”
