Minister of Interior says preparations for the parliamentary elections ongoing
Minister of Interior Nohad Machnouq said on Monday via his Twitter account that the ministry is continuing its preparations to organize the parliamentary elections under the 1960 law, considering that they will take place on the date stipulated by law.

In May 2013, Lebanese lawmakers agreed to postpone the parliamentary elections that were due to take place in June 2013 until November 2014, citing political deadlock and the civil war in neighboring Syria as the reason.

Politicians were also deeply divided over changes to the electoral law that would govern the elections.

The 17-month extension is a first in Lebanon where parliament has lengthened its term since the country's 1975-1990 civil war.
