Lebanese delegation heads to Mali to follow up on crash of Air Algerie plane

A Lebanese delegation headed by the General Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Haytham Jomaa left Beirut to Africa’s Mali on Sunday to follow up on the case of Lebanese victims of the Air Algerie plane that crashed on Thursday (July 24) in Mali.

The delegation is tasked with following up on search operations and adopting the necessary measures to retrieve the bodies of the victims, as well as launching investigations into the incident.

The delegation is also expected to hold talks with the French team which is holding investigations into the incident, and is set to meet with various officials from Mali.

It is worth noting that the delegation is comprised of various members including Major General Mohammad Kheir, General Security officials, Professor Fouad Ayoub a specialist in DNA tests, and other members from Lebanon's Higher Relief Committee.

An Air Algerie flight AH 5017crashed on Thursday (July 24) while en route from Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso to Algiers with 110 passengers on board.

An Air Algerie representative in Burkina Faso said the passenger list included 50 French, 24 Burkinabe, eight Lebanese, four Algerians, two from Luxembourg, one Belgian, one Swiss, one Nigerian, one Cameroonian, one Ukrainian and one Romanian. Lebanese officials said there were at least 15 Lebanese citizens on the flight.
