The Association of Muslim Scholars said Sunday that the incidents taking place in the northeastern town of Arsal are an attempt implemented by Iran’s ally [in reference to Hezbollah] to implicate the Lebanese army in a war against the Sunnis on its behalf, in order to achieve Iran’s goals and eliminate the opponents of the Syrian regime.
In a statement issued by the association, the Muslim Scholars called for an immediate ceasefire in the town, stressing the need to find a peaceful solution to release the kidnapped army members and to allow the return of the armed men to Syria. The association also called for releasing all Lebanese and Syrian detainees who did not commit any crime on the Lebanese territory.
In the same context, the statement denounced the state’s silence toward the use of Hezbollah’s weapons against a Lebanese town, noting that the shelling has to stop in order to prevent any party from creating strife in Lebanon.
